Pediatric Healthy Lifestyle Learning Collaborative

The South Carolina Pediatric Healthy Lifestyles and Metabolic Syndrome Learning Collaborative is a state-wide virtual learning collaborative designed to support pediatric health care providers in improving care for children and adolescents affected by obesity, diabetes, and related health conditions. Through knowledge exchange, evidence-based resource sharing, and peer-to-peer learning, the collaborative helps providers strengthen prevention, screening, treatment, and care coordination for pediatric patients across South Carolina. The collaborative builds on MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness’ broader work to expand wellness, prevention, and treatment supports for children at risk for or living with diabetes and related chronic conditions.

Made possible through generous funding from Diabetes Free SC, this collaborative is a partnership between MUSC and the South Carolina American Academy of Pediatrics. Quarterly virtual sessions (held on the third Thursday of March, June, Sept. and Dec. at 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.) are free to attend and offer continuing education credits. Each session includes presentations from content experts, highlights from community partners, and time for discussion and practical application. Through participation, health care providers are equipped to make positive practice changes that improve healthy lifestyle counseling, obesity care, diabetes prevention, and metabolic health for children throughout the state.

A learning collaborative is a method for supporting practice change in which teams of peers and recognized experts come together to learn from each other in a focused topic area. This learning collaborative will allow for knowledge exchange and resource sharing to improve care delivered to pediatric patients in South Carolina.
