What are Self-Regulation Assessments?

Self-regulation assessments examine children’s ability to control their attention and emotions across different types of tasks. They can be divided into two categories: executive functioning and emotion regulation.

  • Executive functioning tasks include things like problem solving, memory, and planning.
  • Emotion regulation tasks include tasks where children will practice managing their emotions during challenging tasks and play sessions with their parent.

For this study, both parents and children will participate in executive functioning and emotion regulation tasks indepedently and together. Parents and children will also wear heart rate monitors during these tasks.
